Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. Then, she became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional Correspondent. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
